(Kansas City, Mo.) – This week the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) presented Kansas City Water Services with four Peak Performance Awards, which recognize public wastewater treatment facilities for outstanding compliance records in the 2012 calendar year. Water Services’ honors include one gold award and three silver awards. Water Services received recognition for these awards during NACWA’s summer conference and annual meeting, held July 14-17 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
“This is great recognition for our employees who work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to treat wastewater.” said Water Services Director Terry Leeds. “I’m proud of this achievement, which demonstrates our commitment to protect public health and the environment by providing safe and effective wastewater control.”
Water Services four Peak Performance Awards included:
- A Gold Award for the Westside treatment facility, which achieved 100 percent compliance with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) for an entire calendar year; and
- Silver Awards for the Fishing River, Rocky Branch, and Todd Creek treatment facilities, which received no more than five NPDES permit violations per calendar year.
“Kansas City Water Services is an outstanding example of environmental efforts,” said Ken Kirk, NACWA’s Executive Director. “NACWA is honored to showcase the achievements of Kansas City Water Services and our nation’s public wastewater utilities through the Peak Performance Awards Program.”
