Water Services Helps Customers in Need

Posted on December 23, 2013

(Kansas City, Mo.) — For many Kansas City Water Services’ customers, the holidays can be a stressful time as financial commitments pile up, making it difficult to make ends meet. Thankfully, help is available through Water Services’ needs-based assistance program, which was established to help customers who are unable to pay their water bills.

“Water Services is pleased to work with the Mid America Assistance Coalition to provide assistance to customers in need, not just during the holiday season but all year-round,” said Terry Leeds, the Director of Water Services. “The availability of water service is essential for one’s everyday life. Helping customers who are experiencing hardship is part of our commitment to give back to the community.”

The program, funded by fees charged from delinquent bills, is available to assist customers experiencing financial hardship. Since the inception of the program in 2009, Water Services has committed over $1.1 million in funds, helping more than 4,600 customers in need. This year, Water Services has committed $300,000, a 25% increase over last year’s commitment, to the needs-based assistance program, which is expected to assist more than 1,000 customers.

Customers interesting in learning more about Water Services’ needs-based assistance program and potential eligibility are encouraged to call 211 or 816.474.5112.
