(Kansas City, Mo.) – KC Water responded to a wastewater overflow near 4528 S Emanuel Cleaver II Blvd on Thursday, July 14 at 3:30 p.m. The overflow was the result of a collapsed 72” sewer main that was originally constructed in 1925. Wastewater was being discharged into Brush Creek at a rate of approximately 870 gallons per minute. Crews are on site to investigate, to implement by-pass pumping, and to begin repairs. At this time, the main on the north side of Brush Creek has been filled with concrete which has reduced the flow into Brush Creek. Crews will continue working 24/7 until the overflow has been stopped. Signs have been posted downstream, along Brush Creek to the Blue River, asking the public to avoid contact with the water.
