(Kansas City, Mo.) – Necessary maintenance work on a 20” water main will affect water pressure for customers along Front Street this weekend.
Beginning Friday at 7:00 p.m. workers will begin replacing and repairing five valves. To conduct this work the contractor must shut down a portion of a 20” transmission water main that runs north on Monroe Avenue and turns east at Front Street. During this time customers in that area may experience lower than normal water pressure.
The valve work will take place at the following locations: Monroe Avenue and Gardner Avenue; Monroe Avenue and Front Street; just east of N. Jackson Avenue and Front Street; NE Chouteau Trafficway and Front Street; and, near Front Street and N. Topping Avenue. Crews will be working around the clock until the project is finished. KC Water expects water pressure to be restored to the area on Tuesday.
During this work one lane of traffic in each direction on Front Street, west of I-435 will remain open.
This valve work is part of the ongoing large valve replacement program. There are more than 35,000 valves across Kansas City and they control the water that’s flowing through the more than 2,800 miles of underground water mains. This work is another example of KC Water’s continuing commitment to improve the infrastructure of Kansas City.
