(Kansas City, Mo.) – As Drinking Water Week continues, KC Water joins the American Water Works Association and water professionals across North America in encouraging water consumers to get to know their local H2O.
Today, KC Water released an annual report entitled “2018 Water Quality Report: Delivering High Quality Water To Your Tap.” The report, which can be found online, provides an easy-to-understand overview of Kansas City’s high-quality and great-tasting drinking water.
“We often take for granted life’s most precious resource and the lifeblood of our community – safe and reliable drinking water. This is Drinking Water Week, and it’s the perfect time to celebrate Kansas City’s high-quality and great-tasting tap water,” said Terry Leeds, KC Water Director. “We’re committed to providing Kansas City with the best drinking water in the nation, now, and for generations to come.”
While the more than 2,800 miles of pipeline that deliver safe and reliable drinking water right to Kansas Citians’ taps is often overlooked, it is an intricate system that KC Water has operated for more than 140 years. KC Water proudly serves more than 170,000 Kansas City residential and commercial customers, and 32 wholesale customers in the greater Kansas City area. In 2017 KC Water produced an average of 93 million gallons of drinking water per day, enough water to fill approximately 145 Olympic-sized swimming pools each day. To ensure product quality and protect public health, KC Water regularly checks for more than 290 constituents, far more than required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The water quality report is the result of more than 164,000 tests conducted each year on more than 19,000 water samples. To learn more about Kansas City’s high-quality and great-tasting tap water, please visit www.kcwaterservices.org/water-quality.
