(Kansas City, Mo.) – Drivers who use East 63rd Street, between the Kansas City Zoo and I-435, should prepare for delays and detours.
After the morning rush hour on Monday, January 8th, work will begin to repair a leaking 36” water main that runs along and underneath portions of East 63rd Street. Repairs to the water main, which was installed in 1961, are expected to last two weeks. This leak has not disrupted water service to any customers.
Traffic Details:
- Traffic on East 63rd Street, between Lewis Road and Winchester Avenue, will be reduced to one lane in either direction.
- Eastbound lanes of East 63rd Street will be closed from Lewis Road to Winchester Avenue, and eastbound traffic will be moved to the westbound lanes.
- For eastbound drivers on East 63rd Street, right turns will not be permitted on Lewis Road, left turns will not be permitted on Hardesty Avenue, and right turns will not be permitted on Beacon Drive.
- For westbound drivers on East 63rd Street, left turns will not be permitted on Beacon Drive or Lewis Road.
- For southbound drivers on Hardesty Avenue, left turns onto East 63rd Street will not be permitted.
- Beacon Drive and Lewis Road will be closed. Winchester Avenue will remain open.
These closures and detours are to protect workers who will be making repairs in the eastbound lanes of East 63rdStreet, just east of Hardesty Avenue.
Weather permitting, the work is expected to conclude by Monday, January 22nd.
