(Kansas City, Mo.) – KC Water responded to a wastewater overflow at the Burlington Creek Pump Station, located at 4700 Green Hills Road, on Tuesday, June 6th at 11:10 a.m. The overflow was the result of a failed pump. When the pump stopped working, wastewater filled the station and caused a second pump and sump pump fail. The wastewater spilled into Burlington Creek which leads to the Missouri River. The overflow ended today at 12:15 p.m. and resulted in an overflow of 4,000 gallons.
Maintenance and operations crews responded. One pump has already been repaired and is back online. The second pump and sump pump are expected to be back in operation by this evening. Lime has been applied to the affected area and signs are posted alerting the public to avoid contact with the water.
