Your monthly KC Water bill pays for three different services you receive: Fresh, clean water we bring to your property; wastewater you send back to us; and management of stormwater drains and mains on and under your street.
Part of your monthly water and wastewater bill is a basic service charge, and part is based on the amount or volume of water you use.

Your water usage is measured by our water meter, a heavy brass fixture connected to your water line. When you turn on a faucet, take a shower, or flush the toilet, the water you’re using spins a disk inside your meter. The number of spins – and thus the amount of water flowing through the meter – is tracked in the meter. It’s a hydro-mechanical process so far, but then we go high-tech. The usage is read electronically and sent via a gray transmission box on your property to a wireless receiver in your area. Data is then stored on a server for retrieval by a computerized billing system that generates your monthly water bill. Electronic collection means you can check your water usage online anytime

Periodically, KC Water is unable to obtain an electronic or manual read. When this happens, you will receive an estimated bill message on your bill in red. If you have received a letter requesting access to your meter please contact the phone number on the letter.
If you have not received a letter requesting access to your meter call KC Water Customer Service at 816-513-1313 or 311 (Option 1) from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday -Friday.
