Customers Advised About Wastewater Overflow Near 13400 E. 49th Terrace

Posted on July 30, 2018

(Kansas City, Mo.) – KC Water responded to a wastewater overflow near 13400 E. 49th Terrace on Sunday, July 29that 10:30 p.m.  The overflow was the result vandalism after someone put exercise equipment into the manhole.  The overflow ended at 8:45 this morning and resulted in an estimated overflow of 30,750 gallons of wastewater into a storm drainage ditch that leads to the Little Blue River. Runoff from recent rains diluted the wastewater.

Cleaning crews removed the exercise equipment from the manhole which restored the normal flow to the system.  Repairs will be made to the damaged manhole cover.  Warning signs are posted at Lee’s Summit Road where the drainage ditch leads to the river.
