KC Water charges a deposit for all new residential and commercial customers starting service to ensure collection of any outstanding balances left on the account. Established customers transferring service may be required to pay an additional deposit if they have poor or unsatisfactory credit history with KC Water.

- A new customer estimated to use less than 1,000 cubic feet of water per month will be charged a deposit of $110.00 which is due with their first bill.
- A new commercial estimated to use more than 1,000 cubic feet of water per month will be charged a varying deposit based on the estimated cost of water and sewer services for two billing periods.
- An established customer may be charged an additional deposit to transfer service if the deposit held is less than two years from the date it was paid, the customer has more than one delinquency, the customer has poor or unsatisfactory credit history with KC Water, and/or if there the customer has a history of diversion.
*If there is no estimated average on the account, deposits shall be determined by the meter size.

The deposit will be held for two years after the date the deposit is paid. If the customer has service less than two years from the date the deposit is paid, then KC Water will automatically apply the deposit against any unpaid balance left after the final bill due date. KC Water will refund the remainder of the deposit automatically within 30 to 60 days from the date the service is taken out of the accountholder’s name and mailed to the billing address on file if the resulting credit balance is greater than $10.00. Refunds of deposits less than $10.00 will be processed upon request by the customer.
