The American Public Works Association’s (APWA) 2021 Public Works Project of the Year Award: Awarded to the Smart Sewer Central Industrial District Green Infrastructure project in the West Bottoms. The Central Industrial District Project is a part of our Smart Sewer program to reduce the amount of stormwater getting into the combined sewer and causing sewer overflows (video can be found here).
American Water Works Association (AWWA) Missouri Section Sustainability Award: Awarded to the Smart Sewer Green Marlborough project, near 81st & Troost, Kansas City, MO The green infrastructure project within the Marlborough neighborhood used different technologies to reduce combined sewer overflows while improving neighborhood assets and uplifting the community.
Kansas City Industrial Council, Brick-by-Brick Award Nomination: Central Industrial District (CID) Green Infrastructure and Improvements Project
The project provided the West Bottoms with a successful green infrastructure solution for reducing sewer overflows and common urban drainage issues that had plagued the historic area for years.US Water Alliance US Water Prize 2021, Outstanding Cross Sector Partnership: Awarded to KC Water Green Stewards Partnership

National Association of Flood and Stormwater Management Agencies (NAFSMA) presented the annual Green Infrastructure Awards to Lisa Treese, Landscape Architect and Lara Isch, Water Quality Educator. KC Water’s curriculum, Journey of Stormwater: From KC to the Sea took first place in the Excellence in Communications “Improving Water Quality” category and The Middle Blue Green Solutions Pilot Project took 2nd Place in the Green Infrastructure Category for Large Population Cities.

Completion of Twin Creeks Sewers Expansion Kansas City Water Services has been hard at work for two years, laying $40 million worth of sanitary sewers in the Northland.
Six projects to improve wastewater treatment completed for $100 million Six projects to improve wastewater treatment were recently finished on schedule and under budget. Among the projects was a much-needed renovation of the wastewater treatment plant at Fishing River. These improvements were needed to meet Missouri Department of Natural Resources requirements.
