Each year, #WorldWaterDay shines light on the 2.2 billion people living without access to safe water. Here in Kansas City, we work 24/7/365 to provide clean, safe water services to more than 478,000 residents while remaining committed to a more resilient, sustainable future.
Did you know 90,000,000 gallons of drinking water are treated daily at Kansas City's treatment plant? 💧
DID YOU KNOW: In 2005, KC Water started its first annual sewer rehabilitation program effort with approximately 1,900 linear feet (less than 1 mile) of repairs. For comparison, in fiscal year 2021, KC Water repaired 37 miles — our most productive year to-date.
KC Water is taking a “smart” approach to its Annual Sewer Rehab program. By utilizing a risk-based model, the City is able to proactively identify our highest risk sewer assets based on the likelihood and consequence of failure.
Have you ever wondered how KC Water prioritizes which portions of the sewer system get repaired each year? As part of the Smart Sewer program, the City uses data-driven asset management to inform and guide its Annual Sewer Rehabilitation program.
