(Kansas City, Mo.) – KC Water employs hundreds of people to repair water mains, produce clean drinking water, safely treat wastewater, efficiently handle stormwater, and the list goes on.
Among these employees are more than two dozen engineers who divide their day taking account of the needs of this aging infrastructure which dates back to the late 1800’s. This elaborate network of pipes, treatment plants, and more recently “green” infrastructure, requires design improvements, and continuous system oversight. These men and women work with historic data in the planning, design, construction, and analysis of these systems.
February 19-25 is National Engineers Week. It’s a week to call attention to the contributions to society that engineers make and a time for engineers to emphasize the importance of learning math, science, and technical skills.
For some KC Water engineers, engineering was an obvious career choice. For others, they listened to a little convincing from someone else. In the video posted above meet some of KC Water’s engineers and learn how their work benefits Kansas City, today’s customers, and future generations.
