(Kansas City, Mo.) – KC Water’s Household Hazardous Waste Program accepts everything from automotive parts and batteries to used oil and lightbulbs. Effective July 1, 2018 residential customers planning to drop off more than 600 pounds of products at one time must make an appointment. Appointments for loads over 600 pounds will be accepted only on Wednesdays. KC Water is not permitted to accept hazardous waste from businesses.
In 2017, the program set a record taking in more than 1.6 million pounds of product. That was an 11% increase over 2016. As more people continue to use the program, large loads slow down the intake process and result in customers having to spend a significant amount of time waiting in line.
“We continue to appreciate customers who bring us their household hazardous waste. Bringing paint, cleaners, fuels, and other products to this facility ensures that they are properly disposed of,” said Robert Fort, KC Water Environmental Manager. “We will still accept large loads from homeowners, but only by appointment on Wednesdays. This will allow us to provide better customer service on our busiest days.”
Small drop-offs will continue to be collected free of charge every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The HHW facility located at 4707 Deramus is open to residents of Kansas City, Missouri and more than 50 participating communities. Contractor drop-offs are not accepted.
